BoQ

Definition

BoQ is the common abbreviation for bill of quantities. It is a document that lists every measured item of work and material on a job, with quantities and units, ready to be priced. In the UK it is usually measured to RICS NRM so the same description means the same thing to everyone tendering.

You will see BoQ used interchangeably with bill of quantities in drawings, contracts and tender documents. It refers to exactly the same thing, a measured, itemised list of the work that contractors price line by line.

For the full explanation of what goes into one and how it is used, see the bill of quantities entry.

Why it matters

Recognising what a BoQ is matters because so much UK tendering runs on it. When a client asks for prices against a BoQ, they want every line costed, which makes bids easy to compare and variations easy to value later.

We produce fully measured BoQs from your drawings to RICS NRM, branded as your own and ready to price or send out.
